Those who adore dogs struggle to comprehend how anyone could intentionally hurt a defenseless creature without cause. Unfortunately, there are individuals who are simply cruel and their behavior cannot be justified. This is the tale of Spencer, a sorrowful pup who endured immense mistreatment during his initial year of life.
Meet Spencer, a friendly Doberman who was rescued from the side of the freeway in South Carolina after being involved in a car accident. He was spotted scavenging for food, particularly roadkill, along the highway.
Fortunately, Spencer was brought to Paws & Claws in Columbia, South Carolina, thanks to the kindness of some compassionate people. The veterinary team could easily see that Spencer was in pain due to his visible injuries. It was determined that he had a broken back, likely from being involved in a car accident.
The staff noticed that the dog had an improperly done ear cropping, likely a DIY job. Furthermore, when they conducted x-rays, they discovered a group of bird bones in his stomach that could have caused serious damage. Additionally, he had cuts on his legs and head that required stitches.
It was clear that Spencer had suffered abuse, as he was found on the street trying to survive on his own. Luckily, the VCA Animal Specialty Center of South Carolina provided assistance and some good news – Spencer’s small size meant he would recover. Although he had some spinal injuries, he could still feel his legs, and the hope was that surgery would enable him to walk again.
Thankfully, the operation on his back was successful and he was making progress towards regaining his ability to walk. Additionally, the vets found that the bones in his stomach were beginning to pass naturally without causing any harm. It seemed like things were headed in the right direction.
Currently, he is recuperating with the aid of caring staff and undergoing physical therapy. His progress is astounding! Initially, he relied on full support when walking but in no time, he was able to go about without a sling. He’s now back to his sprightly self, capable of walking independently! “He’s a wonderful pup who’s youthful, happy, and in good shape overall. He’s looking forward to living his best life.”
